APIPPA SAYS The most likely reason your radishes didn’t swell is lack of moisture. So before sowing again, improve your soil’s ability to hold water by digging in lots of garden compost (don’t use manure, as it’s too high in nitrogen). After sowing, water regularly so the soil never completely dries out. A phosphate deficiency can also cause poor root development, but it would need to be quite extreme to cause string-like radishes.
