Turn compost to speed up rotting

-

Dig through and turn your compost heap every month to aerate and invigorate the rotting microbes to speed up decomposition. The middle of the heap will be the most rotted, so the outer layers need to be mixed into the centre. Ideally, use a fork to turn it from one bin into another, effectively mixing the contents.

If you have only one bin, dig it out into a barrow then mix it all together as you refill the bin. Water to keep the compost moist if it has dried out and cover it to help it heat up after turning.
