Flavour of the month

-

The leek – it’s fair to say that I am more demanding of this vegetable than it is of me. It requires no protection over the harsh winter months and becomes a staple addition to meals at this time of year, when the last of the winter crops come to an end and we enter the ‘hungry gap’ before the summer harvests start. What it does need is a long growing season. For harvests in autumn and winter right through to this time next year, I’ll sow seeds this month and next.
