Prepare beds for sowing

-

Weed your beds before doing the final preparations for spring veg sowing. Avoid digging at this stage, but if the surface is very compacted use a fork to prick through it lightly. Rake down the lumps that are turned up while forking to form a finer tilth. Rake the surface level, drawing soil away from the bed edges to stop grass growing into the bed from grass paths. Pick out any large stones.

Sprinkle a dressing of general fertiliser before doing one final rake. Leave to settle for a few days before sowing.
