STEP BY STEP

Buy veg plants in plugs for an easy way to start a crop. Most seed companies supply via mail order or you can buy them from a garden centre. You’ll be limited to the varieties offered, but it’s a great way to get started.

OPEN the packaging or set out the plug plants straight away to air the shoots and water the tiny roots in the plastic cells.

FILL 7cm pots with multipurpose compost and press a plug into the centre of each pot, firming them in, then water.
