Mow your lawn regularly
Mow the lawn on a dry, bright day. The lawn is made up of thousands of small grass plants that after a trim will thicken up their growth from the buds in the centre of the plant – so mowing is a bit like pruning. Keep the cutting blade high at the start as this avoids damaging the buds and strengthens the grass’s ability to compete with lawn weeds, which are adept at tucking close to the ground and are rarely mowed off even if you lower the blades. Don’t mow grassed areas with bulbs yet – wait for the bulbs to die back first.
