Get ready to plant out

-

Move young plants that are ready for planting out from the warm greenhouse to acclimatise them to life outside. If you plant them straight out from a warm environment they will be susceptible to leaf scorch from the cold and the drying winds.

Put them in cold frames or a sheltered spot outside, where they will be protected but will gradually harden to the lower temperatures. Open the lids during the day to introduce some air movement.

If you don’t have a frame, they can still go outside but it is wise to move them back in or cover them at night for the first few days. They’ll establish well after this process, which should take one to two weeks.
