Veg contaminated by weedkiller
Almost one in four cases of distorted foliage reported by gardeners last year were confirmed contamination by aminopyralid, a weedkiller used to treat pastures and lawns.
After GW reported on the issue last year (Clippings, September ’20) lots of you contacted us about stunted, fernlike veg, after using compost which may have been contaminated.
Aminopyralid manufacturer Corteva Agriscience says 30 out of 130 cases it investigated last year were aminopyralid contamination. It’s making changes to “further restrict” how and where their herbicides are used. But Garden Organic wants the weedkillers banned.
Report suspected cases to the HSE (CRDEnforcement@hse.gov.uk) and to Corteva via manurematters.co.uk
