Plant summer bulbs and tubers

Plant exotic bulbs and tubers now, for their dramatic flowers later in the summer. Dahlias, cannas, agapanthus and gladioli can all be planted now. You may still find dormant bulbs this month but also look for them growing in pots at the garden centre. These will mostly need sun and a freedraining soil. Mulch with grit to keep bulbs from rotting and protect the new shoots from slug damage.
