Pick gooseberry sawfly off

-

Check for gooseberry sawfly damage. Sawfly larvae eat the foliage and can defoliate a whole bush. Hand picking to reduce the population works and should be done regularly through the season. Once the fruit has been picked, let the birds help. Sawfly pupate in the soil so in the winter, disturb the soil and, if you have a fruit cage, leave the door open. There is also a nematode that can be sprayed directly onto the larvae.
