Skin splitting
This problem is unsightly and can cause secondary rotting in wet weather. It’s more pronounced on very ripe fruits so consider picking vulnerable varieties a little early and ripening them fully in a sunny, dry spot. Pronounced on ‘Sungold’ and ‘Tigerella’, minor on ‘Red Cherry’, ‘Black Cherry’, ‘Gardener’s Delight’ and ‘Strillo’. ‘Honeycomb’ is claimed to suffer less than ‘Sungold’, and this proved true in our trial (although it’s not fully resistant).
