Strawberries

-

We cover the strawberry patch with netting, watch each tiny fruit ripen with anticipation, only to find on harvest day that some small critter has ripped a hole in the side and snaffled the lot. It would make much more sense to grow them in hanging baskets next to the house, where our family dog can make itself useful and set up as a squirrel guard.

Ways to enjoy

There aren’t many recipe tips for harvests of a single strawberry, but if you supplement your hard work with a trip to the local pick-your-own, then strawberry jelly or sorbet is the way to go. If you’re being fancy, pair with elderflower and black pepper.
