Don’t prune these now
✗ ROSES Rosa glauca, moyesii and rugosa are grown for their winter hips, so should be left unpruned now to allow the hips to develop.
✗ RHODODENDRONS Flower buds begin to form as the days shorten, so avoid pruning these shrubs completely.
✗ NEW SUMMER RASPBERRY CANES These plants should be crowded by a mass of new shoots, which are next year’s canes, among the fruit, but don’t be tempted to cut the new canes out or you’ll have no fruit next year.
✗ DAPHNES Susceptible to die-back, pruning should be avoided, especially in a warm month like July when the plants can be stressed.
