Summer prune wisteria
Wisterias are pretty much guaranteed to flower well if you spur prune them now, a few weeks after flowering. If your plant is tall, it’s best to use a stable platform ladder.
Pruning back the new growth now not only reduces the plant’s vigour to contain the size, but also stimulates the production of flowering wood. When left unpruned, this climber can invade gutters and roof cavities. Time this summer spur pruning so that the leafy shoots have had about six weeks to grow out after flowering, providing energy to keep the plant in good health.
