Prune plum trees to avoid infection

-

Prune your plum trees this month to avoid infection from airborne silver leaf disease. Stone fruits don’t need as much pruning as apple and pears. Simply cut away any suckers or shoots appearing low on the main trunk. Thin branches if necessary and shorten some of the upper shoots from this year’s growth if you want to contain the height. The fruit will be obvious so avoid cutting that wood unless the tree is over burdened.
