What’s this odd growth on my blackberry plant?

ABOB SAYS This is fasciation – the widening and flattening (and often curling or twisting) of a stem. It’s not infectious and, though some species are prone to it, it’s not usually inherited. It often occurs in times of extremely rapid growth, occasionally caused by trauma like frost or insect damage.
