Divide bearded irises now

-

Lift congested clumps of bearded irises now if you didn’t do so last month. Separate your plantlets by pulling apart the rhizomes. Select pieces with roots and reduce water loss by cutting back the foliage to 10-15cm, leaving a fan-shaped stub of leaves.

Replant into free-draining soil in a sunny position and make sure the top of the rhizome is exposed on the surface. Water well and leave to grow.
