Weeding unearths a long-lost treasure
Clearing undergrowth at the end of his garden, a Birmingham man was ‘gobsmacked’ to discover what he thought was an old shed is in fact a near-intact 18th-century folly. Garden historian and GW presenter Advolly Richmond helped to identify the 350year-old shell house, which is decorated with clams, razor shells and mother of pearl, as well as sheep’s knucklebones. “We squealed when we saw it,” she said. “It’s amazing that something like this can just be hidden away.”
