Q Why do my walnuts and hazels not crop?

Anthony Craven, Hull

BOB SAYS Walnuts can be tardy, seldom crop in cold sites, and the male flowers can miss the females on same tree. Hazels, however, are usually regular croppers from early on. They’re partly self-fertile but crop better in mixed groups. Maybe your site is too dry? Spread wood ash around the base – this often helps.

?? ?? Hazel trees usually crop readily, as long as conditions aren’t very dry
