WINTER GLOWS

-

Often, we urge gardeners not to cut back plants too early so that there is habitat for wildlife and something to which the frost can cling. Sometimes, however, cutting is essential. The achillea seedhead here (and I think the yellow euphorbia too) needs pruning so that the gleaming orange stems of the cornus can shine.

Cornus ‘Midwinter Fire’

Excellent winter shrub. Cut back in spring as the young stems are the brightest. Best in damp soil.

H x S 2m x 2m

Euphorbia palustris

Always wear gloves when pruning as sap can burn. Propagate from basal cuttings in spring.
