Garden ponds could be fuelling a boom in dragonflies. A study by the British Dragonfly Society has found 40 per cent of dragonfly and damselfly species are on the increase as they find more habitats in gardens and restored wetlands. Tom Clarke, head gardener at dragonfly hotspot Exbury Gardens, Hampshire, says dragonflies prefer deep, fish-free ponds with upright reeds or flag irises.
