Soft fruit

One of the main gardening jobs that I associate with late winter is fruit pruning. Soft fruit bushes such as blackcurrants can be pruned now by removing a few older stems at the base (encouraging new, strong growth) and creating an open, goblet shape. Cut the canes of autumn-fruiting raspberries right back to their base.
