Air plant terrarium

How to make a plant display for your bathroom

-

Air plants are some of the best plants to style in a terrarium vessel because they need a lot of humidity. They are also one of the easiest plants to create a terrarium with because, one, you’re not potting the plant in the vessel, so you can take it out when it’s time to water it and, two, you don’t have to worry about soil, you have so many more options for how to style it.

As long as you have the appropriate light, air plant terrariums can go anywhere. One of my favourite things to do is to treat them like ornaments and place them in my larger trees around the house. Why is it that the Christmas tree is the only tree that gets to be dressed up? My fiddle-leaf fig wants a little love, too.

When it comes to making an air plant terrarium, here is how you should go about it…

 ?? ?? 1
Find the glass vessel that fits the space you’re looking to place it in. Dress the bottom of the vessel. Because you’re not using soil here, you can get creative. I’ve placed small stones at the bottom of mine, but feel free to be imaginative.

Add your moss to the terrarium. Again, this will be for decoration, so style it the way you see fit. I’ve added a bit here to make it appear like a small bush. You could use long tweezers to fill your terrarium if it makes it easier.

Add your unique touch. My goal for this terrarium was to be a little subtle and give it a beach vibe, so I found the perfect small piece of driftwood to lay on top of the stones.

Lastly, place your air plants. Here, I used a Tillandsia ionantha and a Tillandsia bulbosa. The difference in their size and shape brings the wildness I love.
