Winter prune peonies

-

Cut back all the old stems of your peonies now. Use a clean, sharp pair of secateurs and take some time to cut each stem cleanly back right down to ground level. Avoid damaging the buds emerging at the base.

Clean up all the debris to prevent peony wilt, a fungal disease similar to grey mould that can ruin next year’s flowers, causing them to go brown and wilt. It gets worse year after year if old plant debris is left for the spores to germinate from the following year.
