Boost to community pride
A new virtual award is to celebrate community gardening projects across the country. The Royal Horticultural Society trialled its first digital Community Gardening Awards during lockdown, and it’s been so successful it’s planning to continue. Amersham in Bloom, Buckinghamshire, was among 63 community groups who entered, winning two ‘outstanding’ awards for their wildflower corridor and tree planting. Lead co-ordinator Steve Catanach says, “This should inspire more people to show off what they can do.”
RHS community development manager Kay Clark says the trial has uncovered some “really heartening” stories. To enter next year, visit: rhs.org.uk/get-involved/communitygardening/news/articles/rhs-community-awards
