How to sow pelargonium seeds

-

Sow the seeds of pelargoniums now to grow plants for next summer’s pots and baskets. This early sowing gives the seedlings plenty of time to reach full size, saving money on nursery-raised plants.

Germinate in a heated propagator at 24hC for the fastest results and keep the seeds moist until they’ve germinated. Move them into the light to grow on. Prick them out into potting compost and í° ĄЕÅÅ ĕÓþ â³Ì« Ą C Ą

1 SCOOP some peat-free compost suitable for seed sowing into pots. Firm the surface down gently with a pot press or another flat-bottomed pot to make it even and level.

2 PINCH some seed from the packet between your thumb and forefinger, then sow it sparsely onto the surface, giving the seedlings plenty of room to grow. Label the pot.

3 SIEVE a thin layer of compost or vermiculite to just cover the seeds, then press it down gently to make good contact with the lower layer.

4 PLACE the pots in a water tray filled with tepid water to allow the moisture to soak up through the pot to the surface. Take it out once the surface has darkened.
