Q I want to reduce the size of my lawn – what can I do with the turf?

MATTHEW SAYS Pile up the pieces of turf in a stack, grass side down, in a shady spot, such as behind your shed, and leave them for 12 to 18 months. The grass will rot away and leave topsoil that you can mix with potting compost for long-term container plants, or simply reuse in borders wherever soil levels are low.
