Rejuvenation pruning can be carried out on many shrubs, but they won’t usually flower that year:
Elaeagnus is rare, being an evergreen that can be rejuvenated, but be more gentle with it and cut back only one in three of its stems.
Foxglove tree (Paulownia tomentosa) can be hard pruned from now until spring – as a result it will produce huge, tropical-looking leaves.
Viburnums of all kinds respond well to this kind of severe pruning.
