How long will it take?

You can spend the entire season adjusting your mixed planting – adding to it and changing combinations – but the results in a small space will be achieved quite quickly. Planting bright spring flowers under a light-canopied apple tree might only take an hour or two, but the effect will soon be enjoyed for its beauty, and pollinating insects will be attracted to ensure a better crop. Containers planted up with flowers or veg will take very little time. Re-sow lettuces, radishes and other fast-growing crops as the summer progresses.
