Late-summer flowering shrubs

Late-summer flowering shrubs flower on growth that will be produced this year. We can prune now, knowing that flowering will not be compromised. Fuchsias, hydrangeas (see right), caryopteris, lespedeza and buddleia (above) fall into this category. Hard pruning results in strong growth and large flowers, whereas a lighter touch gives earlier, smaller flowers.
