Winter-flowering shrubs

-

Winter-flowering shrubs flower on growth that has ripened over the previous spring and summer. Once shrubs such as Viburnum x bodnantense have finished flowering remove a proportion of the flowering stems to encourage fresh growth and a compact habit. Prune a little each year, removing 20 per cent of the oldest growth at the base.
