From mid-April to May our focus switches to evergreens such as box, fatsia and hollies, and more tender shrubs such as woody salvias. By late spring, the harsher weather should be mostly behind us and we can reduce and prune these evergreens with confidence, safe in the knowledge that young shoots are less likely to be burnt off by a cheeky, late frost.
