How to sow seeds direct on to garden soil outside

1 Use a taught line as a guide and draw a rake at an angle across the soil to make a shallow trench.

2 Sprinkle seeds carefully and evenly along the row so that they fall to the bottom of the trench.

3 Cover seeds with a layer of soil about as deep as the height of the seed. Remove any big bits of soil.

4 Water using a watering can with a sprinkler attachment so as not to disturb the seeds.
