Do’s and don’ts

✔ DO sprinkle a layer of peat-free multi-purpose compost along the bottom of the trench if your soil drains poorly.

✔ DO leave enough space between rows for the plants to develop fully without growing into space reserved for other plants.

✔ DO mix very fine seeds with garden sand and sprinkle the sand where you want to sow to ensure an even spread of seeds.

X DON’T feel like you need to sow the whole packet. Sow as many as will fit the space and keep any spare seeds as a back-up.

X DON’T sow seed onto very dry soil. If very dry, water the trench first before sowing.
