Do’s and don’ts

✔ DO use sieved peat-free compost to cover the seed if you don’t have any vermiculite.

✔ DO clean trays before sowing.

✔ DO cover the trays with a clear plastic lid or put them in a propagator if seeds need warmth.

X DON’T give up on trays that aren’t showing any signs of life – sometimes it takes longer than the times stated on the seed packets.

X DON’T expect high germination rates from old seed that has been in storage for a long time.
