Deadhead early bulb displays

-

Keep potted bulb displays of winter aconites, dwarf irises, snowdrops and other spring gems looking great by snipping off old flowers as soon as they fade. Doing this straight away stops them setting seed, and all the energy that would have taken is instead put back into the bulb for next year. Leave the foliage in place and apply a general liquid fertiliser while the plants are still in growth. Do this tidy-up regularly so the later flowers in the display get a chance to shine too.
