Plant bare-root ginger lilies
Pot up roots of ginger lilies (Hedychium) for fragrant, tropicallooking late-summer flowers, usually in vibrant shades of orange or yellow.
Put a little loam-based potting compost into a pot and place the fleshy rhizome horizontally on the compost with the buds facing up and close to the surface. Fill with more compost, firming it so the buds are at the surface and the rhizome is just under it. Water well and place it somewhere warm and bright.
Ginger lilies need plenty of fuel to feed their lush growth, so apply a liquid plant food regularly once the shoots appear.
