Plant early potatoes

STEP BY STEP

-

You can grow early potatoes in even the smallest of spaces in a potato bag. Keep covering the shoots with more compost until the bag is full. The crop forms on the buried stems. Water regularly and add a general liquid feed weekly. You can harvest in late June.

MAKE a 50:50 mix of loambased and peat-free potting compost, then place a 20cm layer of it in the potato bag and firm gently.

PLACE the early potato tubers on the surface. Each needs roughly 10 litres of compost, so space out four in a 40 litre bag.

COVER the tubers with 10cm of compost mix, firm gently and water well. Keep more compost ready to add as the shoots grow.
