Pot up evergreen herbs

-

Expand your supply of leaves for the kitchen all year by planting evergreen herbs into attractive containers to place in a sunny spot near the house. Sage, rosemary, thyme and bay need well-drained conditions, so use loambased potting compost and mix in extra grit to improve drainage.

Water the herbs well, then tease out any tightly packed roots. Position in their new pots and fill any gaps with more compost. Water again, then place in plenty of light. Snip off shoots regularly as you need them – this will keep fresh young growth coming.
