Start beetroot in modules

-

Sow beetroot seeds individually into modules for reliable germination and perfect rows once they’re transplanted into the garden. Fill a modular tray with peat-free multipurpose compost, firm it down, then place one seed in the centre of each cell.

Cover with about 5mm of compost, then water. Beetroot seeds are hardy, so can be germinated outside in a sheltered spot or in a coldframe. Once the seedlings have rooted into the module, transplant them into the veg patch, spacing them 10cm apart.
