STEP BY STEP Moving a deciduous shrub

-

USE soft string to tie up the frame of the shrub in order to protect the stems from damage and make access to the rootball easier.

DIG a trench around the rootball, cutting through some of the surface fibrous roots so that you can get under the centre to cut through the anchoring roots.

LEVER up the rootball all the way around and as deep as you can under the rootball, then use a saw or a spade’s blade to cut through the most persistent roots.

TREAD in the soil around the roots once the shrub has been replanted. Firm it well to stop any movement while the roots recover and grow out.
