Prepare potted perennials for the new season
Go through pots of perennials to check that the new shoots have enough light and space to grow away strongly. Scrape off any leaf debris that has collected over them in winter and trim off old stems if they’re still there from last year.
Remove any opportunist weed seedlings and look out for any clusters of translucent slug eggs near the compost surface or on the inside edge of the pot. These will hatch when the new shoots have emerged and are ready to eat.
