How to sow veg seeds in the ground
The advantage of sowing vegetable seeds direct into the soil is the crops can develop exactly where you want them to mature. This saves time moving seedlings from trays to pots before planting them out. You also don’t have to worry about seedlings having to acclimatise to a new environment after being raised in a pot or tray. The key with sowing veg direct is to sow when the conditions are right. Veg such as beetroot, broad beans, parsnips and carrots can be sown in March and April when the soil is still not very warm. Others such as French beans, runner beans and courgettes are best sown in early May.
