Look out for vine weevil

-

Look out for vine weevils in your greenhouse this month. They’re about 1cm long, black or grey, with a mottled lower abdomen.

They’ll roam your greenhouse at night, feeding on leaves. They lay eggs in pots so their larvae can feed on the soft new roots. Keep populations down with regular inspections. Shine a torch at night to pick off feeding adults and look under benches, where they hide during the day.

Placing sticky traps near pots will help catch them too. There is also a nematode used as a biological control that can be used to drench the compost and kill the larvae, which will help control further outbreaks.
