Plant Jerusalem artichokes

-

If you have space to spare, this is a good month to plant Jerusalem artichokes. The tubers are planted in the spring and harvested in autumn and winter. Plants can grow up to two metres tall so choose a spot that doesn’t shade other crops.

You could also use them to provide some shelter from the wind. Plant the tubers 10cm deep and 30cm apart. Protect the new shoots from slugs and earth up around them to help support the plants if necessary.
