Hidden gems of English heritage
Tucked away between the Cleveland Hills in Yorkshire, English Heritage’s Mount Grace Priory – where you can save £11.20 on entry with your card – was once a Carthusian monastery, suppressed during the reformation, rebuilt as a 17th century mansion and, finally, remodelled in the Arts and Crafts style. Recently rejuvenated by Chris Beardshaw, the gardens impress in every season. Highlights include the Arts and Crafts garden, the monk’s garden and wildflower meadow. Booking is essential.
