How to plant your pot
Choose a container with good drainage. To help preserve wooden containers, line them with an old compost bag with holes. Fill your container three-quarters full with quality peat-free compost.
Put plants in first, then fill in with moist compost to just below the rim, before levelling and gently firming. Use a pencil or finger to make holes for larger seeds, popping a couple into each.
Large seed such as peas and beans should be sown 2-3cm deep. Sprinkle small seeds such as lettuce and carrot on the surface and press in gently, before lightly covering with compost.
Peas and beans may need supports such as twigs. Water thoroughly and keep well watered, and apply liquid feed regularly. Harvest frequently to keep more flowers, leaves and fruits coming.
