Make cardboard pots – draw an open box template on paper, then use it to cut out templates from thin cardboard. Stick these together with paper masking tape to make biodegradable pots

Recycle loo roll inners – save the tubes from loo rolls to use as deep modules, ideal for sowing runner beans and other large seeds.

Mix your own seed compost – blend two-year-old leafmould with equal parts of loam (garden soil) and sharp sand, then sieve to make your own peat-free sowing compost.

Turn packaging into pots – wash margarine tubs, yoghurt pots and tin cans thoroughly, punch holes for drainage, then fill with compost and sow.
