Pot up tomatoes

-

Use large, deep pots or buckets with drainage holes filled with peat-free potting compost. Mix in some wellrotted manure and granular fertiliser; tomatoes are hungry plants and will quickly take up those extra nutrients as they grow.

Soak the roots well and snip off the lowest set of leaves before potting them deep into the compost, right up to the next set of leaves. The extra length of stem buried under the surface will produce more roots and help to anchor the plant better.

Add a long cane for support and place in the final cropping position.
