Improve a sparse or patchy lawn

-

If your lawn is looking patchy, now is a good time to sow grass seed to repair bare areas and thicken up the sward. First, scratch into the soil surface where the grass is sparse, using a wire rake. The soil needs to be crumbly and fine enough to sow into, but firm underneath so it doesn’t settle and form dips. Water before sowing if the soil is dry.

Scatter the lawn seed onto the surface, then cover with netting or fleece for a couple of weeks to keep birds away until it germinates.
